The Washington Metropolitan Racing Pigeon Concourse flew their regular 500mile race on June 9, 2012. Donny Bey of Bey Family Lofts won the race with his yearling blue check hen AU-11-FTCC-52. She flew a distance of 520miles at a winning speed of 1335.802 ypm against 198 birds from 17 lofts.

“52” is a bird that Donny bred from two birds he bought from a benefit auction in 2010. Her breeding is not certain but Donny does still own the parents. He said that “52” when shipped was sitting on a single egg and when she arrived she immediately flew to her nest and within a couple of hours laid her second egg.

The race was very competitive with many of the WMRPC big hitters clocking birds in race time. Mota Loft put in a stellar performance by clocking four birds within the top 10%. John Celia (Vintage Loft) clocked 3rd and 18th and longtime racer Way John clocked 6th, 14th and 16th respectfully.

The birds were released at 6:20am into clear skies with a light south winds and 57 degrees. Conditions upon return were clear, light southwest winds and 82 degrees.

Congratulations Donny!
