AU Bows Out of 2016 Convention Controversy

The American Racing Pigeon Union (AU) in an April 29, 2017 press release states;

“As indicated in the AU’s Press Release dated March 29, 2017, [which has since been removed from the AU website] the AU requested financial information from Mr. Hindi, but received an incomplete response.  The AU still has questions of Mr. Hindi and has reached out to his attorney seeking clarification and further information. We have not yet received this information despite repeated attempts. Now that local law enforcement authorities are investigating the matter, the AU will defer to the investigation and will not be able to respond to inquiries from other entities or individuals.”

The 2016 AU Convention has been embroiled in controversy once it became apparent that 2016 AU Race Committee failed to pay prize money to many of the handlers and breeders after the convention.

Shortly before being awarded the 2016 AU Convention, Mr. Hindi was appointed to a newly created AU Zone Director position.  AU President Tom Colletti has pledged to ensure that Mr. Kamal lives up to his responsibilities as Race Chairman, even if that includes litigation. It is unclear at this time, since the AU is no longer willing to communicate with victims, if the AU will continue to work towards achieving resolution.

Hello Leaders of the American Racing Pigeon Union,

I’m somewhat disappointed with your actions in this matter and expect you to be leading the charge in this despicable act by Mr. Hindi. As I understand it your leaving it to the class action group to get justice. Your support in this matter is being watched by all members of the ARPU. If you the ARPU continue this no action response then your membership will decline in the near future.

From a long standing member of over 40 years, its not too late to rectify.

Please step up and do the right thing.

    Yours in the sport,
    Greg McKnight

Seems to me it is time to replace the entire board if the ARPU is to survive this debacle! Other options are joining the IF (International Federation) or creating a brand new entity. I am thinking the best option of the three is to begin a recall effort on the entire upper upper membership of the board and proceed from there. Once this is done the process of changing how things are done can begin!

What’s different about this Convention is that it was chaired by a standing AU board member. It doesn’t appear that their was a local organization. The AU created this mess. For them to claim no responsibility is sad to say the least. Not only should the AU be actively seeking answers from Mr. Hendi the should be perusing criminal action against him on behalf of its members that have been swindled. They should be the lead in legal action.

This whole AU 2016 was a sham from the beginning. It become so evident in the night of shipping with the 3 members of the race committee who were licked up with the computer trying to enter birds in the computer. Why would it take till 5:30 in morning. Suspicion there. Then they all got payed their money while we were left high and dry. So don’t expect to retrieve so said money. What should happen is these three individuals should be banned from ever racing pigeons again. The AU knows about the controversy with this committee from several complaints a while back yet they chose to take no action. Such a shame because there are so many pigeon flyers who love this sport and it comes to this committee to put their greed first and not the love of pigeons first.Sincerely Carl Jarson

The Shipping had some issues with the equipment, it has nothing to do with the fraud created at the entire event.
The shipping was a total disaster, that is correct but to make assumptions is not going to fix the real problem.
The AU it is definitely responsible for all this and refuses to take action as it happened several times before.
What a shame, is all I can say..

The non-paid handlers, took matters into their own hands and filed criminal charges with the prosecuting attorneys of LA, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.

Once a criminal investigation starts, it is advantageous for civil litigants to allow the legal investigations to be complete before filing civil charges.

No sense paying California attorneys to do discovery at billable hours rates when the police will be doing the investigation on their own dime.

Best to wait for the criminal case to wind down and then use all of the data collected to use in your civil case.

Mark Karges’ group is in the lead right now, they will be in communication with the prosecuting attorneys of the three counties, and they should be the ones all questions are referred to concerning the legal case.

Once the legal case is resolved, the civil courts can be involved for damages, and performance on the contract.

AND THE AU SLIDES ON OUT ?

  6. C.L. GAGE on May 10, 2017 at 3:24 pm

AS I SAID IN THE BEGINNING THE AU IS GUTLESS IT WAS THE AU CONVENTION THEY SHOULD BE LIABLE FOR THE MISSING FUNDS.BUT THE AU IS AND ALWAYS OPERATED IN A CLOUD OF SECRECY AND NEVER HAS ACCEPTED THE RESPONSIBILITY OF RUNNING AN ORGANIZATION AS LARGE AS THE AU WITH MANY MEMBERS THAT PAY THEIR SALARY TO WATCH AFTER THINGS LIKE THIS. I’M NOT ON THE LIST OF PEOPLE IN THE CIRCLE SO I CANT ADVISE ANYONE,BUT IF I WAS I CAN TELL YOU THIS, I WOULD ALREADY HAVE KNOWN WHO GOT THE MISSING FUNDS AND A JUDGEMENT WOULD HAVE BEEN FILED.THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE FUNDS COMING CAN CALL ME FOR ADVICE.DON’T GIVE UP THE LAW WILL WORK IN YOUR FAVOR AND THEIR ARE GOV. BACKED FUNDS AT YOUR DISPOSAL.I THINK MYSELF THAT IT IS THE AU THAT SHOULD BE POUNDING ON DOORS TO FIND A SOLUTION TO THIS.IF ANYBODY READING THIS UP FOR REPLACING THE AU WITH A BRAND NEW ORGANIZATION I’M IN. THEY ARE WEAK.

WELL BY GOD I DO. THE AU DON’T BELONG TO THE BOARD OR THE COMMITTEES THEY APPOINT , THE AU BELONGS TO THE MEMBERS. I THINK THE WHOLE BUNCH SHOULD BE IMPEACHED AND REPLACED. WHAT SAY Y’ALL

  8. Mario Blank on June 7, 2017 at 10:28 am

It appears to me that some of the some of the AU board members may have something to hide themselves. I certainly hope not. How can they not be willing to take the lead in resolving this matter? After all it is the AU convention, is it not?

  9. John Vance on June 14, 2017 at 4:46 pm

That’s right, the AU belongs to the members and not the board. It is what the members want and not the board. If we want all the members made whole, that is what we will get even if it takes years to pay them off.

Someone, has to get up and say, I am not going to punk out, everyone knows that people enter the AU Convention race, because it is hosted by the AU. Quit trying to run away from responsibility. We the membership want the AU to be responsible for the outcome of the AU convention.

If it takes 15 years to make everyone right then that is what it takes. I refuse to walk away from the breeders and the handlers with some feeble excuse of “it is not our fault”. It is, if we say it is, you don’t make that decision we the membership makes that decision. And you had better move on if you think differently, because you do not represent us.

I’ve said it before and I will say it again Drew! The Au and the GHC is run by unjust people. I know you won”t print this but the
AU board of directors sent me a letter denying my membership!!! They are a nasty group of people running what is supposed to be a hobby.

Nice job with your web site. Nice that there is somewhere to go to read up on this 2016 convention race drama. As a AU member I should be in titled to know what kind balance is owed? I can find no info on how much money is missing. If I new what kind of balance was owed I would then contact my zone director on how I feel it should be handled.
